Today, May 10, 2017, the IV Political Consultation Mechanism Romania-Peru took place, which included a reexamination of the priorities between the two countries and gave a new impulse to the bilateral agenda, especially to the economic, political and cultural areas. The Peruvian delegation was headed by Ambassador Néstor Popolizio, Viceminister of Foreign Affairs, and the Romanian delegation by the State Secretary for Global Issues within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Monica Gheorghiță.
Both delegations expressed their political will to deepen the dialogue at the highest level and advancing in the materialization of cooperation agreements in areas as Disaster Risk Management and fight against corruption, as well as in the fields of culture, science, judicial assistance, cyber security, fight against drugs and organized crime.
The participants also exchanged opinions about the process of connection between Peru and Romania and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the efforts made by the both governments to adopt the standards and good practices of the Organization.
The participation of Romania as an observer state in the process of integration of the Pacific Alliance was also outlined and the importance for coordination in multilateral issues was emphasized, taking into account the future participation of Peru as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Regarding the economic and commercial fields, the participants agreed to work together to increase the spreading of economic and commercial possibilities and opportunities provided by the Multipart Trade Agreement with the European Union, with accent on the participation of the small and medium-sized enterprises and in the fields with large potential of each country.
In that sense, the recent visit to Peru of a delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, institution which plans to organize a business mission and a negotiation forum in November 2017, was also underlined.
In the end, Ambassador Popolizio met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, who announced the possible tour that would make President Klaus Iohannis to some countries in Latin America, on the occasion of his participation to EU-CELAC Summit, in October 2017. The Romania Minister expressed that, in his strategy of renewed rapprochment to Latin America, Peru has a privileged position for being a gate to the region.
